This is an introductory post of myself, the redesign of my new website, and what to expect in the future from this blog.

A little bit about myself

I am Chris Allen, a 25-year-old student at Art Institute of Portland. I have had the privilege of developing sites for SightWorks for the last year and a half. I write this as I enter my last week of classes before receiving my Bachelor of Science in Web Design and Interactive Media from the Art Institute of Portland. It feels a little surreal to me after being in school for 20 plus years, but now I am ready to take the next step in my professional career.

The newly redesigned site

That being said introducing the redesign of compared to the old cpallen, thanks to the Wayback Machine.

cpallen Homepage

This site does not just come with a fresh new design, a lot of hard work was put into make optimized for speed, SEO, and accessibility. I started off by making the decision from leaving a static site behind and using WordPress as my platform to build dynamic content. I utilized trusted plugins such as WordPress SEO by Yoast for SEO and W3 Total Cache for speed as well as custom built plugins and templates for accessibility. I am very pleased with the overall outcome.

What to expect from this blog

I have learned how important it is to have a voice and not be scared to put yourself out there when it comes to the web community. This led me to my decision for developing this blog. I hope to use this blog as a place to share, learn, and teach others from my experiences within web related subjects.

My goal is to produce a minimum of two blog posts a month, which will range from tutorials, shared resources, or discussing some web design or development related topic.
